The Chevy Camaro was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang and provide drivers with a different take on the modern American sports car. Forty years later, the Camaro is still around. Reshaped, improved, and ready for the battle, Chevy has once again unleashed this icon, giving a whole new generation of drivers a chance to get in on the action. From its debut in 1967 to its most current incarnation, the Camaro is geared towards dishing out V8 power along with the sleek style. Even during an era where an emphasis has been placed on smaller, more economical vehicles, the Camaro has proven there is still a place for some good ol' fashioned American muscle.
Come the dawn of the 1970s, the Camaro became larger and wider. It was still a unibody with a front sub-frame and an A-arm front suspension, but the new styling gave the model additional girth. It is during this decade when the Camaro began to become a true hit with the youthful audience, as Chevy took advantage of the emerging media outlets in order to entice prospective drivers. But the engineers at the company kept at it, implementing a rear-facing intake and adding various other power-enhancing Camaro parts throughout the course of the decade. While it still carried a highly respectable name, interest in the Camaro had begun to wane come the eighties until the model was outfitted with fuel injection. Coupled with a Turbo-Hydramatic four-speed automatic or five-speed transmission along with a standard 4 cylinder engine, the Chevrolet Camaro was once again a hit. The nineties saw further enhancements to the Chevy Camaro parts, such as an optional V8 engine, sleeker exterior styling, and all-traction control.
Chevy decided to discontinue the Camaro in 2002 due to sluggish sales but reconsidered a few years later. 2006 and 2007 saw the unveiling of Chevy Camaro concept cars, addressing speculation of a comeback. Production finally began in 2009 and Chevy got behind the Camaro, this time with a strategic yet focused advertising campaign. The "new" Camaro is loaded with amenities and comes in several different trim levels: the LS, LT, and SS. The LS and LT are available with a 3.6L V6 engine and deliver around 304 horsepower. The SS goes bigger, coming in 6.2 liter V8 capable of 426 horsepower. As opposed to other generations of the Camaro, the current makeup of the model is only available as a coupe. With its smooth lines, modernized style, advanced underhood parts, and improved power, the Chevy Camaro is poised to take back some of the stardom it has always enjoyed.
One of Chevy's most recognizable vehicles, the Camaro boasts plenty of power to go along with its accessibility. Drivers from all across the land have found reasons to fall in love with this American icon. Maybe the Camaro's sleekly-styled exterior that has evolved throughout the model's run plays into it. Or it could be because motorists have always enjoyed slamming their lead foot down on the gas in order to "open it up" on the highway. Whatever it is, it hasn't gone away. In fact, the Chevy Camaro is now stronger than ever. Though unfortunately the reliability of this car can't last forever, so over time you may need new parts for the Chevy Camaro.
